I was born in Westbrook, Maine in 1952. After graduating
from Westbrook High School in 1970, I graduated from Bates College in 1974 with a B.S. in biology
with a minor in chemistry. I worked in medical research for six
years and received my Masters of Education in Science Teaching from the University of Vermont in 1981. I taught at McAuley High School in Portland, Maine for 2 years and Forest Hills High School in Jackman, Maine for 2 years before moving to Waterville in 1987 with my husband, Clifton, and three children.
I have been teaching
science at Waterville High School since 1987. I
started our highly successful Science Olympiad team in
1990 and have coached it ever since. I became science department chair in
2003.
During the time I spent in
research, I was a secondary author on 6 papers published in several scientific
journals. I had the yearbook dedicated to me at McAuley
in 1984 and at Waterville in 1997. I was given a
Renaissance in 1996 and the Waterville Board of Education Faculty Award in
2002. I was named Chemistry Teacher of the Year for Maine by the New England Association of
Chemistry Teachers in 2003.
